1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that Careify Support Services provides a safe environment for all participants, protecting them from harm, abuse, neglect, violence, and exploitation in accordance with the NDIS Practice Standards.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all employees, volunteers, contractors, and any representatives of Careify Support Services in contact with participants or responsible for participant care and support.
3. Policy Statement
Careify Support Services is committed to safeguarding participants by promoting their rights, dignity, and wellbeing. We maintain systems and practices that prevent harm, respond to risks, and ensure a culture of accountability and respect.
4. Definitions
– Safeguarding: Actions and policies designed to protect individuals from harm and uphold their rights.
– Risk of Harm: Any potential or actual situation that may negatively impact the safety or wellbeing of a participant.
– Protective Factors: Measures that enhance a participant’s ability to live safely, such as strong relationships, awareness, and secure environments.
5. Responsibilities
– All Staff: Must follow safeguarding procedures, report concerns, and act in the best interest of participants.
– Managers: Ensure staff are trained, supported, and monitored in line with safeguarding standards.
– Directors: Provide oversight, policy enforcement, and reportable incident compliance with the NDIS Commission.
6. Safeguarding Measures
6.1 Preventative Practices
– Use of robust recruitment, worker screening, and training programs.
6.2 Participant Empowerment
– Encourage choice, control, and self-advocacy.
6.3 Risk Management
– Identify and document potential risks and implement control strategies.
6.4 Incident Reporting
– All safeguarding concerns must be reported and managed under the Incident Management Policy.
6.5 Environmental Safety
– Ensure physical environments are accessible, monitored, and free of hazards.
6.6 Whistleblower Support
– Staff and participants can raise concerns anonymously without fear of retaliation.
7. Participant Rights
Participants have the right to feel safe, be free from abuse or neglect, and be supported to make informed decisions about their safety and wellbeing.
8. Training
All staff receive safeguarding training during induction and annually, including recognising signs of abuse, reporting obligations, and maintaining safe environments.
